A removal service of this type involves packing, moving and sometimes unpacking the belongings of householders who are moving from one residence to another, or businesses relocating from one location to another.

This type of service is most successful if you can provide cost effective services to customers who are relocating from one place to another in the same community. This segment of the market is not well served by large removalist companies who are better suited to helping people to relocate to another town or state.

Qualifications?

All you need in the way of qualifications are physical strength, experience in the field and an ability to organize and coordinate logistics.

Equipment?

To enter into this business you will need a suitable vehicle, in all probability a small truck. If you do not want to purchase one, you may be able to hire one when you need it.

You will also need packing materials, straps, pads and at least one sack truck.

Setup Costs?

Apart from the equipment mentioned above, your set-up costs will include outgoings for advertising and promotional materials, and business insurance to cover you for any damage done to the customers property, personal income protection and worker's compensation insurance for any employees.

If you hire a truck to begin with your startup costs will be between $1,500 to $3,000.

Potential Earnings?

If you run this business alone, your income will be limited to around $20,000 to $30,000 per year. Realistically, alone you can only do so many moves in a year!

When you begin to hire assistants you will be able to take on more work and complete each job faster. Expanding the business would involve investing in more vehicles and equipment but depending on the demand for this type of service in your community, your potential earnings could be unlimited!
